Foz do Iguazu - day 1

Written Sunday 4 May

Words will not suffice to describe how tired I am. It's my own fault really; instead of grabbing the opportunity to nap after a sleepless 12 hour night bus, I decided to go for a swim in a freezing cold rooftop pool & wander around the ghost town centre instead. And now I have to babysit my electronics while they charge in the lobby since the room isn't actually equipped with the standard plugs we've used across the rest of the trip. Need sleeeep! And tea, tea will help.

Got tea! After stumbling out of the night bus at 7am, had time for a cold shower and breakfast - which in the hotel's defence was so good. Soft bread (hard to come by in these parts), 3 different types of cake, juicy watermelon, awesome cheese, classic tea (boom) and chicken pie... Bit random but good to know they're covering all bases!

Hit Iguassu Falls, one of the seven new natural wonders of the world. I always knew it was going to be good, but standing under 265 individual falls listening to the thunderous roar of millions of litres of water cascading from above & getting soaked from the resulting mist as it billowed across the viewing platform was one of those wow moments. Since there had been so much rain yesterday (200ml!) the water was gushing fiercely left, right and centre making the whole spectacle even more impressive. The recent rains also set the surrounding farmland in motion, giving the falls their Willy Wonka-esque hue (usually they're more blue than brown).

Wildlife wise not a huge amount. Shitloads of raccoons knocking around and lots of brightly coloured butterflies - plus jet black vultures that were swallowed into the mist as they circled the falls.

Heading to the Argentinian side tomorrow - another stamp for the passport :)
